Kremlin Calls Attempts to Attach Political Meaning to Yevtushenko Arrest 'Absurd'

2014/09/16

MOSCOW, September 16 (RIA Novosti) - Attempts to paint the situation around billionaire Vladimir Yevtushenko, main shareholder of Russia's AFK Sistema, in political colors are “wrong and absurd,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, Russian prosecutors pressed charges against Yevtushenko over his suspected involvement in money-laundering. He was put under house arrest by a court ruling.

According to Peskov, Russian President Vladimir Putin has been informed of the situation.

“The president expressed hope that investigators would conduct an unbiased probe and find answers to all questions,” Peskov said.
