MOSCOW, August 18 (RIA Novosti) — The Zamoskvoretsky Court in Moscow has sentenced four individuals from three months and three years to three and a half years in prison over riots that broke out in the capital in May 2012, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported from the courtroom Monday.
Alexei Gaskarov, Ilya Gushchin, Alexander Margolin, and Dmitry Ishevsky received from between three years and three months of conditional arrest up to three years and six months in a penitentiary.
All four were charged in a separate case, along with Elena Kokhtaryova, who is currently under recognizance to not leave the city.
An anti-government protest turned violent on May 6, 2012, when dozens were injured and more than 400 were detained on Bolotnaya Square during clashes with police.
In late July, the Moscow City Court sentenced Sergei Udaltsov and Leonid Razvozzhayev, the two key suspects in the 2012 riot, to four-and-a-half years in prison. Both were charged with plotting to incite the riots in Moscow on May 6, 2012.
Udaltsov, who has been under house arrest since February 2013, was taken into custody in the court room. Razvozzhayev fled Russia in late 2012, and had been charged with illegally crossing the country’s border with Ukraine to evade prosecution.
The court ruled that it has been proven "that the legally organized public event on Bolotnaya Square on May 6 turned into mass riots."
Moscow’s Zamoskvoretsky Court earlier sentenced eight other participants of the riots to between three years and three months to four years in jail. Several other suspects were pardoned.
The 2012 demonstration was one of several large-scale street rallies in Moscow and other Russian cities that had taken place since December 2011.
Around 650 people were detained following clashes with the police at the 2012 May rally.
