LUHANSK, August 23 (RIA Novosti) - Distribution of Russia’s humanitarian aid to the residents of Luhansk will start Saturday, Vice Prime Minister of the Council of Ministers of the People's Republic of Luhansk Vasyl Nikitin told RIA Novosti.

“A team of volunteers has been formed to pack the humanitarian aid into food baskets – a kilo of salt, rice, sugar and two leaders of water each. I hope we will start distributing food today and will send help to hospitals and nursing homes. The population is in bad need,” Nikitin said.

According to Nikitin, some part of Russia’s humanitarian aid could be sent to Donetsk.

“We are making lists of the neediest. Separately we will check who cannot come to the distribution point on their own. We are talking not only about the residents of Luhansk, but also about people in all the towns and villages,” Nikitin said.

On Friday, the convoy of Russian humanitarian aid crossed the border and arrived in Luhansk. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry called it a “violation of international regulations” and urged international partners to condemn Russia.

Moscow reminded that Russia received a formal agreement from Kiev authorities for the passage of the humanitarian convoy through the Ukrainian border on August 12.
