ST. PETERSBURG, August 25 (RIA Novosti) – Police officers have written up a man detained after attacking an Echo of Moscow radio correspondent in St. Petersburg, charging him with disorderly conduct, the regional department of the Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti.

"A statement has been written up regarding the conflict with the journalist, article 20.1 (disorderly conduct), pre-investigation check is underway," the spokesman of the department said.

Russian journalist Arseny Vesnin was covering a group of picketers supporting Ukraine last Sunday, when he claims to have suffered a concussion after being attacked by the accused. The journalist said the attacker kicked him the arm that held a microphone, then punched him in the face and knocked off his glasses. Vesnin filed a report to the police, and the suspect was soon arrested.

The editor-in-chief of the radio station said Echo of Moscow would seek a criminal indictment for the detained person.
