Three People Confirmed Missing in Floods in Russia’s Siberia

GORKI, MOSCOW REGION, June 2 (RIA Novosti) – Three people are listed as missing in floods in southern Siberia, Russian Emergency Minister Vladimir Puchkov said Monday.


“The rescue operation continues. Over 12,000 people have been evacuated,” he said.


Heavy rains struck Siberia in the past days causing flooding in four southern regions - the Altai, Khakassia and Tuva republics and the Altai Territory. Tens of thousands were left without power, infrastructure was heavily damaged.


In the Altai Republic alone, the flood destroyed 230 kilometers of roads and 15 bridges across the Amur Republic.


The weather forecast remains unfavorable, in some regions the rain turned into snow.


The ministry plans to restore power supplies by the middle of this week.
