Hermits Village in Sibir Mountains of Russia

2014/06/02

Two thousand meters above sea level, in mountains near Krasnoyarsk Russia, there is a hermits village who moved there twenty years ago and have built everything from scratch.

A blogger took his trip there too see how they live off the grid in the mountains. To get to the place one has to take eighty kilometer long trip on the mud road, like this one which the author has took:

Last three kilometers they had walk on foot.

All the visitors are being hosted in separate houses, men stay separate from women EVEN if they are married. Those are the local rules.

The map of the village mimicking the Star of Bethlehem. Streets have poetic names like “Sun winds”, “Star fields”, “Singing mounts”, “Forest spirits”, “Crystal gates” etc.

The newcomers are being introduced to the community rules: “not to eat meat or fish, no smoking, no drinking, no curse words”.

Roughly forty families live in the village.

The place has no power grids at all. Every house has sun panels, and generator is being started when needed. Sat dishes give TV and internet access.

Many farming fields are around together with hothouses. Each family should support itself with the food, to feed kids they have goats and chicken (for milk and eggs).
