…those were top secret during Soviet era, but more easy to be accessed now. A few Russian top level military equipment producers try to allow more publicity lately. Those are some photos made in such previously hard to get places as the newest MIG-35 assembly lines, power engines for heavy military IL 76 transport planes, Tula high precision weaponry (like the Pantsir-Greyhound we had yesterday) and more.
“Alligator” Ka-52 is the further development of helicopter Ka-50 “Black shark”. An ordinary person could probably never see it being assembled, however…
It becomes possible today… Journalists and bloggers are allowed even in the “sanctum” like this.
And this is what this light frontline fighter MiG-35 of “4++” generation has got under the cockpit – side-looking airborne radar “Zhuk” (“Beetle”), the device with a universal modular structure – it can be easily and cheaply adapted for new modifications of combat aircrafts.
Here is how they assemble the radar. Only in white gowns! Like in medicine they need sterility here. By the way, the yellow thing here on the picture is an active phased antenna array. It allows to increase the detection range, indentify and classify group and single objects, attack some targets at the same time.
One should have a special permit to enter these labs.
That mess of strange objects on the image above are used to suppress radiation of the radar being tested.
