The Main Battle of the Afghan War

The other day there was held a reconstruction of the main battle for Hill 3234 in the Afghan war in Saint-Petersburg. In 1988 thirty nine Soviet paratroopers were opposing to the fighters of special units trained in Pakistan whose number was 200-400.







The soldiers of the Russian army were trying to reach a besieged city Host and bring humanitarian supplies there. The Mujahideen rebels were sitting in ambush and waiting for the Soviet soldiers. The battle was lasting twelve hours. The Mujahideens finally retreated. Out of 39 Soviet fighters six died, twenty eight were wounded. But the rebels did not manage to take the hill. As a result Host was liberated, an autonomous Islamic state was not formed.
