Siberian Man Shoots Noisy Neighbor, Kills Himself

MOSCOW, November 23 (RIA Novosti) – An man from Siberia’s Republic of Buryatia shot his neighbor dead in a row over noise before taking his own life on Saturday, investigators said.

According to the local investigative department, a 57-year-old resident of Ulan-Ude was in a bitter feud with a young family that had bought an adjacent apartment and was renovating it.

Investigators said the man, angered by the renovation noise, “has repeatedly threatened the family with violence.”

When the family – a 25-year-old man, his wife, child and mother-in-law – were driving home on Saturday evening, the neighbor fired a shot at their vehicle from his hunting rifle. The bullet smashed the windshield, injuring the mother-in-law in the elbow. The woman was hospitalized.

“The young man rushed upstairs, towards the shooter’s apartment. However, when he approached the door, the neighbor opened it and shot him in the chest, inflicting a terminal wound. The victim had died before paramedics arrived,” the Russian Investigative Committee said in a statement.

After that the man locked himself in his apartment and started shooting indiscriminately at passers-by from a window. No one was injured.

Police tried to persuade the man to lay down his firearm and surrender, but fired five shots at them through the locked door before turning the gun on himself.

Police seized three rifles and ammunition from his apartment.
