Old Fridge Triggers Bomb Scare in Russian City

2013/11/21

SAMARA, November 21 (RIA Novosti) – An “unidentified suspicious object” that triggered a massive bomb alert near a Russian military facility Thursday turned out to be an old fridge, police reported.

Investigators, sniffer dogs and a bomb squad were summoned to the scene in the Volga city of Samara and the territory was cordoned off by police.

“Experts examined the suspicious object and identified it as an old fridge that posed no danger,” police said in a statement.

Fears of a terrorist attack in the Volga area may have been fuelled by a recent suicide bombing that killed seven people in Volgograd, a city about 400 miles southwest of Samara.
