Making Tiles and Sanitaryware In Belarus

2013/11/12

How do they make ceramic tiles? Shortly speaking clay is mixed with sand and other ingredients, then this mixture undergoes drying, pressing, glazing and kilning. But the details are much more interesting and complicated. Check out the whole process at one of the Belorussian companies with us.

There can be two types of clay used for making tiles – red and white, the second is considered to be more rare and expensive. Belarus has a lot of red clay while white one is imported from Ukraine.

Feldspar is one of the main ingredients. It helps to decrease shrinking of the tiles.

Clay and kaolin are placed into such huge capacities where they are mixed with water. The dissolved mass is transferred into the mill by means of pumps as well as sand and spar. In the end of grinding they get liquid indiscrete mass which is called clay slip.

Now the mixture is to be filtrated and enriched. The clay slip is stored in special pools with mixers before it turns into press powder.
