MOSCOW, November 23 (RIA Novosti) - Russian property tycoon Sergei Polonsky, who is awaiting extradition to Moscow in a Cambodian jail, said on Saturday he was ready to negotiate compensations with claimants in his fraud case.
Formerly one of Russia’s richest construction magnates, Polonsky is wanted in Russia for an alleged embezzling of 5.7 billion rubles ($175 million) from investors in the Kutuzovskaya Milya upscale residential project in Moscow. He denies the charges.
According to the Russian Interior Ministry, more than 80 individuals are seeking compensation for money they had lost.
“I plead the investors, the Kutuzovskaya Milya buyers, to choose three people as their representatives,” the jailed tycoon wrote on his Facebook page on Saturday.
He said he was ready to cover their travel expenses.
Polonsky has earlier said he was ready to “compensate the damages” to investors, who lost their money as a result of his “mismanagement.” He did not disclose the sum, however.
The tycoon, who was arrested last week on a Cambodian island, is now being held in Prey Sar, the country’s largest prison, outside the capital Phnom Penh. No exact date for his extradition has been announced as the court hearings have been delayed.
