MOSCOW, November 13 (RIA Novosti) – Fires erupted at two research institutes in northern Moscow on Tuesday, with an explosion at a microbiology and infectious disease center causing a blaze that injured two people, one severely.

A gas leak is believed to have caused the blaze that embraced a 20-square-meter area inside a laboratory at the Gamalei Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, the Emergency Situations Ministry said in a statement.

Another blaze ripped through the first floor of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Radio Engineering. The fire engulfed an area of 250 square meters, but no one was injured, the Emergency Situations Ministry reported.

Both blazes have been extinguished.
