Blast Hits Store in Southern Russian City, At Least 1 Killed

MAKHACHKALA, November 8 (RIA Novosti) – At least one person was killed by a blast in a store Friday morning in the capital of the turbulent southern Russian republic of Dagestan, the local Interior Ministry said.

A law enforcement source told RIA Novosti that authorities are attempting to establish what type of explosive device caused the blast, and that initial indications point to a business dispute being behind the incident.

Witnesses earlier reported an explosion in a 24-hour store in the city of Makhachkala, Dagestan’s capital.

The law enforcement source said one other person was injured in the blast, which completely destroyed the store.

The apparent attack bears similarities to an incident late last month in which a double explosion rocked two adjacent stores in Makhachkala, killing at least one person and injuring several others.
