2013/10/01

VOLGOGRAD, October 1 (RIA Novosti) – A woman in southern Russia was jailed Tuesday for attempting to have her husband killed, the Investigative Committee said.

The woman, named as Lyubov Dmitryenko from the Volgograd region, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison after a jury found her guilty, the committee said in a statement.

In October 2012, Dmitryenko, who had fallen out with her husband and had begun divorce proceedings, began looking for a killer, the statement said.

She revealed her plans on a social network to a virtual acquaintance, who also happened to be a close friend of her husband’s. The man reported the incident to the police, who organized a sting operation.

The court established that Dmitryenko paid 100,000 rubles ($3,000) to an undercover policeman posing as the would-be “hit man” and handed him the keys to their apartment to facilitate the crime.

The court also awarded her husband 200,000 rubles in damages.
