KIEV, October 4 (RIA Novosti) – One person was killed and two injured in an explosion at a frontier post on the Russian-Ukrainian border Friday, Ukrainian officials said.

“During an interview with border guards at 1:46 a.m. a detained man blew himself up with unidentified explosive material. As a result of the explosion he died, and two border guards were injured,” said Sergei Astakhov, advisor to the head of the Ukrainian border guards service.

The incident took place on the Ukrainian side of a border crossing near the village of Bachevsk in the Sumsky Region, which was closed in the aftermath of the blast, according to Astakhov.

The fatal blast reportedly took place as a man, who had a Russian passport that did not belong to him, was being questioned by border guards after he was discovered hiding with four Moldovan citizens in a bus crossing the Russian-Ukrainian border. An investigation into the incident was being carried out, Astakhov said.
