MAGAS, September 8 (RIA Novosti) – Yunus-Bek Yevkurov has been reelected for a second term by the parliament as the head of Russia’s North Caucasus Republic of Ingushetia, the parliament’s speaker said Sunday.

Yevkurov, 50, who has headed Ingushetia since October 2008, was supported by 25 out of 27 deputies of the People's Assembly of Ingushetia, in a secret ballot, speaker Mukharbek Didigov said.

Shortly after the announcement, Yevkurov asked the republic’s parliament to be inaugurated on Sunday to start his work “as soon as possible.”

The leader of Ingushetia, Yevkurov stepped down in early July in order to seek reelection to the post. His term was due to expire in October.

Ingushetia is among Russian regions that waived direct gubernatorial elections, re-introduced last year, and opted in favor of a parliamentary vote instead.
