Russian Rescue Team Frees Drunk Women From Siberian Cemetery

TOMSK, September 16 (RIA Novosti) – Two “intoxicated” women in a Siberian village called the local Emergencies Ministry to help them find their way out of a cemetery after losing their way as night fell, the ministry’s press office said Monday.

On Saturday night, two women and four girls aged between 7 and 17 went to visit a relative’s grave at a cemetery in the village of Voronino in Russia’s Tomsk region, but couldn’t find their way back out, the ministry said in a statement.

One of the women called the local emergencies ministry – in charge of search and rescue operations – to help them find their way out, the statement said.

The rescue team used sound signals and flashlights to help show the women where the exit was and escorted them back home to Tomsk, the statement said.

“There were external indicators that the adult women were in a state of alcoholic intoxication,” the statement noted.

In Russia it is common for relatives and friends to gather at the grave with drinks and food and "share a meal with," or remember, the dead.
