MOSCOW, September 17 (RIA Novosti) – Police in southern Russia said Tuesday they have detained a man they suspect of selling counterfeit condoms and attempting to bribe an official.

“The police learned that the man was selling a well-known brand of condoms wholesale online. Finding that the salesman was not connected to the production company, police officers carried out a test purchase by ordering 15,000 items,” Rostov Region police said in a statement.

The suspect delivered the condoms from Ukraine on a truck, and was detained while moving the order to another vehicle, the statement said.

The same day, the man offered a policeman 40,000 rubles ($1,237) for not seizing the fake goods, but the policeman reported the bribe attempt to his superiors.

The cargo was seized and the police are considering launching a criminal case on attempted bribery charges.
