Russia Allocates $40,000 to Help Nationals Fleeing Syria

2013/08/26

MOSCOW, August 26 (RIA Novosti) – Russian authorities have allocated about 1.4 million rubles ($40,000) to give temporary shelter to Russian nationals fleeing the civil war in Syria, the government said Monday.

A decree posted on Russia’s official legal information website says the money “will be allocated from the Russian government’s reserve fund to finance temporary housing (up to five days) for Russian nationals and their family members who are being evacuated from Syria, and to transport them to their temporary or permanent accommodation.”

The Russian government’s press service said before the issue was considered by the Cabinet last week that more than a hundred Russians and their family members might require state assistance before they officially apply for displaced-person status.
