MOSCOW, August 19 (RIA Novosti) – Teenage neo-Nazis might seem like the usual suspects in a case of anti-immigrant street graffiti in Russia, but not in the central Tula Region, where an elderly local woman was recently convicted of spray-painting walls with anti-Tajik messages.
Pensioner Galina Skripova, 58, repeatedly targeted bus stops and walls around the region with a can of black spray paint for some three months this year, the Unise.ru regional news website reported Monday.
The messages called for Tajik migrant workers to be physically abused, local prosecutors said in an online statement, without elaborating. Regional media reported that the slogans were profanity-laden, but gave no examples.
Skripova was caught spray-painting a wall at a factory in mid-March and on Friday was sentenced to 150 hours of community service, prosecutors said. However, they did not specify the kind of community service; many such jobs are done by migrant workers.
