2013/07/15

MOSCOW, July 15 (RIA Novosti) – One of the world's largest tank and railway car makers, Russia's Uralvagonzavod, plans to launch its own line of clothing, shoes and accessories under its brand name, Kommersant business daily reported Monday.

Uralvagonzavod, based in Russia’s Urals region, is to start the production and sale of clothing – including T-shirts, jackets and shoes – for men, women and children to promote its brand, following in the footsteps of other major global manufacturers such as Boeing and Caterpillar, the tank maker’s deputy director, Alexei Zharich, told the newspaper.

The Uralvagonzavod range of clothing and other items has been created by Russian designer Alexei Maslov, who previously worked on the branding of the state-funded television channel Russia Today. Investment in the tank maker’s fashion debut will total about 20 million rubles (about $600,000), Kommersant reported.

The range of items, made at factories based in Russia and China, will be sold at three showrooms in Uralvagonzavod’s native city of Nizhny Tagil in the Urals, as well as via its online store, uvzshop.ru.
