MOSCOW, July 16 (RIA Novosti) – The six world powers negotiating with Iran on its controversial nuclear program are committed to holding comprehensive talks with Tehran in the near future, the Russia’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

The ministry said the issue had been discussed earlier in the day in Brussels, at a meeting of senior diplomats from the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany, and chaired by EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.

The sides have “particularly stressed their interest in holding the next full-format round of talks between Iran and the six nations in the near future, as soon as the Iranian side is ready,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Ashton said ahead of the meeting that the six nations expected to meet with the Iranian team of negotiators soon.

Iranian President-Elect Hassan Rouhani, who won the June 14 vote, is expected to appoint the country’s new chief nuclear negotiator after taking office on August 5, Euronews said.
