MOSCOW, July 24 (RIA Novosti) - Siberian law-enforcers are looking into reports that a man poured gasoline over himself and set it on fire after his wife refused to give him money for liquor, Russia's Investigative Committee said on Wednesday.

“On July 23, a 52-year-old resident of the town of Ilansky had an argument with his wife, who refused to give him money to buy alcohol,” a statement on the Investigative Committee website said.

“When the wife left to visit her friend, her husband went outside, poured gasoline over himself and lit it,” the statement said.

Russian media reported that a passing “good Samaritan” came to his aid – putting out the fire and calling an ambulance.

“The man is in intensive care at the moment, his condition is critical, he suffered burns to 95 percent of his body,” a regional police department spokesman told Russia’s Komsomolskaya Pravda daily.
