MOSCOW, July 4 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated his US counterpart Barack Obama on Independence Day and expressed hope that the two states will eventually overcome their differences and find solutions to many bilateral issues.

In his congratulatory telegram, Vladimir Putin noted that Russia and the United States bear a special responsibility for guaranteeing global security and stability, resolving regional crises and countering terrorist threats.

“The President of Russia expressed his confidence that even though the views of the two states do not always coincide, Russia and the US will eventually find solutions to multiple issues of principle importance if they base their bilateral dialogue on mutual respect and take into account each other’s interests,” the Kremlin said in a statement posted on its website.

The Russian leader also noted the importance of the discussion he had with Barack Obama during the G8 summit in Lough Erne in June and confirmed his readiness for further meetings which could take place during a Russia-US summit in Moscow and the G20 meeting in St Petersburg in early September.
