Rescuers Find Missing Mi-8 Helicopter in Russia’s Far East

MOSCOW, June 8 (RIA Novosti) - A Mil Mi-8 helicopter that went missing in Russia’s Far East on Thursday was found on Saturday morning, the fate of crewmembers and a passenger is unknown, a spokesman for the regional Emergencies Ministry department said.


The helicopter that belonged to Russia’s Voluntary Association of Assistance to the Army, Air Force and Navy (DOSAAF) was flying from Tugur to Briakan in the Khabarovsk territory on June 6, when it failed to establish contact with air controllers at the designated time.


According to the spokesman, the remains of the crashed helicopter were discovered from air during a rescue and search operation and the nearest detachment of rescuers set off to the detected crash scene.


The Mi-8 helicopter reportedly carried four crewmembers, a passenger and about three tons of fish.
