Moscow Street Named After Hugo Chavez

2013/06/25

MOSCOW, June 25 (RIA Novosti) – A street in northern Moscow will be named after late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a Moscow government spokesman told journalists on Tuesday.

Chavez, who had ruled the South American nation for 14 years, died on March 5 at the age of 58 after a two-year fight with cancer.

The acting chairman of the Moscow government’s public affairs committee, Alexander Chistyakov, said that Chavez Street (Ulitsa Chavesa) would, in fact, be a 170-meter-long "square" leading to a hotel.

Moscow authorities announced on Tuesday that they would give names to nine unnamed streets and one bridge. One of the streets has been decided to bear the name of Russian opera star Galina Vishnevskaya, who died last December at the age of 86.
