Building the Beautiful Mosque

2013/05/27

We are going to visit one construction site in Karachay-Cherkessia (the republic belonging to Russia). The mosque being built will become one of the five most spacious mosques of the Northern Caucasus and will be among the most beautiful ones.

The mosque was founded more than five years ago, in November 2007, but the construction had not started till spring 2011. So far they do not have such a place which accomodates enough Muslims in Cherkessk. It took two years to build the walls thirty two meters high, the central dome with the diameter of eighteen meters. The project is not financed by the state but by private sources.

The mosque is being built in a traditional byzantine style and national features can clearly be noticed – once seen from afar it becomes obvious – this is not Turkey but Cherkessk.

The total area of the mosque is more than four thousand square meters, it will be able to accomodate more than five thousand people.

There will be a fountain here, in front of the entrance.

In the central hall of the mosque.

The floor will be heated in winter.

The mosque has three levels which are lit from more than 200 windows.

The inner height of the mosque is more than thirty meters, the height of the mihrab is twelve meters.

Now the dome is supported by metal poles but they will be subsequently removed.

The four minaretes, each fifty two meters high, will be beautifully illuminated at night.

Nearby is an old Central Mosque of Cherkessk.
