At the Construction Site of the Hydro Power Plant

2013/05/21

This is another hydro power plant of North Ossetia – Zaramagskaya HPP. It is definitely worth visiting. The whole structure is very complicated and divided into two interconnected plants – the main one and the one being built, HPP-1. When finished it will become the largest hydro power plant of the North Caucasus and will have the highest water pressure compared to other hydro power plants of Russia – 630 meters.

Zaramagskaya HPP has already been built for thirty years.

The head HPP with power of fifteen MW was put into service in 2009. It is located on the Ardon river near the gorge up to 1000 meters deep.

The maximum height of the dam is 39 meters, length – 300 meters.

The head HPP is intended for producing energy with water pressure created by the dam.

Head structure of the HPP.

Downstream is observed from the dam.

It is the view from the platform of the head station at the 110 kV switchgear.

This gantry crane serves to lift and lower the the gates.

Rewater descharge.

We come closer to the main building of the HPP.

In the central control room.

Turbine room: its length is 24 m, width is 23.7 m.

This is a hydrogenerator.

The diameter of the water wheel is 3,5 m, its weight is 30 tons.

It’s the pedestal of the generator.

Plug valve blocks water flow from the tunnel of the HPP.

Some psychedelic room.

Structures of the head station will provide water intake into the water powerplant canal of the HPP from the reservoir complex formed by the dam.

The gorge area is avalanche-prone, such guns are used to remove extra snow from the slopes.

The Ardon river creates an ideal cascade of power stations created according to the diversion scheme.

On the photo above is the construction of the 270 thousand m3 pond. It will be used for water accumulation before its supply to the turbines of the HPP.

Some part of the daily run-off pond.

Open composite reinforced concrete pipe.

The part of the pipe which faces the vertical shaft.

The vertical shaft is 508 meters deep.

Here will be HPP-1 with the turbine hall 42,7 m long and 32,2 m wide.

We’re inside the tunnel leading from the shaft to the turbines of the future HPP.

Tunnel conduit.

This structure is called “trousers” – here the water from the mine is separated to flow in two directions.

And some more pictures of the construction site.

Zaramagskaya HPP will allow to decrease the deficit of energy in North Ossetia and improve the financial climate in the republic.
