2013/02/27

MOSCOW, February 27 (RIA Novosti) – Over half of Russian minors using the Internet visit websites with harmful content, including pornography, children rights ombudsman Pavel Astakhov said on Wednesday.

“About 40 percent of those aged under 14 visit porn sites,” Astakhov said, in a report to an international conference on information safety for children.

According to Astakhov’s report, Russian children make 18 percent of all country’s active Internet users, or around 10 million people.

Astakhov also said 19 percent of minors visit sites with violent material, 16 percent gamble online, 14 percent visit sites related to illegal drugs and 11 percent visit extremist websites.

Russian minors often use mobile phones to open harmful websites, because they consider them to offer more privacy and protection, Astakhov added.
