Russian Foreign Minister 'Slightly' Injured in Turkey - Ministry

2012/12/04

MOSCOW, December 4 (RIA Novosti) – The Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday denied Turkish media reports that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov broke his arm during his official visit to Istanbul.

“It is a minor sports injury, which has not affected the minister’s working schedule,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Hurriyet Daily News reported on Monday that Lavrov broke his arm in Istanbul when he “fell down stairs” at a hotel where he was staying.

The report said Lavrov was hospitalized and a cast was put on his arm.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said reports that Lavrov ‘had been hospitalized’ were “complete nonsense.”

On Monday Lavrov met with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu. The Russian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that Lavrov is scheduled to take part in the meeting of the NATO-Russia Council in Brussels on Tuesday.
