Planes Doomed to Die Soon

2012/12/05

This year Russian has lost some interesting aviation objects. An exposition of planes on Khodynka near Moscow was destroyed, Air Forces Academy in Monino was closed and, finally, a training base of the Moscow Power Engineering Insitute and Moscow Aviation Institute was liquidated as well. We are going to visit the last place today.

Just recently the planes were strictly guarded by men and dogs. But today there is nobody here. The reason is probably that the territory is being transferred to the space communications center. Their new equipment is already appearing here.

Two fighters MiG-23 are still here.

The wings have a cellular structure inside which is reminded by the warnings on the aerodynamic surfaces.

This is an engine exhaust nozzle.

It is a landing gear compartment.

The wing was probably destroyed during the transportation, but it does not really matter today. These planes won’t live long.

They also had a Mi-24 helicopter here.

The cargo compartment is empty.

In the rear cabin are the remains of avionics.

The tail is put on the tires.

Inside it looks like this.

Wings are nearby too, though there is no reductor and propellers.

There are some MiG-21 units.

The engines are on their places.

It’s the light under the wing.

All the covers still have chains.

The vehicle lacks much components but the wiring is mostly untouched.

One can take a bath in the cabin of the MiG!

They also have vehicles of the fourth generation.

MiG-29. The nose cone is laying nearby, the radar was carefully removed.

This MiG in a poorer condition.

The wings are separated, the broken fuel lines stick out.

This is a compartment for a drag chute.

We often see them in a good condition, it’s even more interesting to see them “undressed”.

The engines of the MiGs are found nearby.

They are like hearts made for transplantation but thrown away.

It’s the Space Communications Center.

Another telescope was not finished.

Huge metal arch, necessary for mounting the antenna (it is rotting nearby), is supported by the cables coming from multiple winches.

They still rotate.

And here is another abandoned building on the territory, it had an antenna on its top but it was removed.

The place looks quite apocalyptic.
