In Autumn, 1943, Part III

2012/11/13

Now goes the final and the most spectacular event of the reconstruction devoted to Kiev liberation from the Nazi invaders. 800 people and 30 units of equipment took part in it. You are about to see the event with the eyes of one participant who was on the battlefield and in the trenches. See the previous reports: 1, 2.

The Soviet tanks are approaching the left bank of the Dnieper river. They were careful and the Germans didn’t notice anything. The Nazi spy planes detected Soviet tanks and large weapons on the previous places, but they were made from logs.

On November, 3, 1943, fierce fighting began.

German fighters are in the sky over Kiev.

They attacked in the morning fog.

Many Soviet soldiers were killed.

The Germans retreat to the second line of defense.

And only the wounded ones remain.

And those who won’t need help anymore.

The Germans are regrouping.

They are hungry.

The wounded get medical help.

After the short rest they start to counterattack.

The trenches are full of dead soldiers.

The Germans are getting ready for the next counterattack.

But the Soviet soldiers do not give up.

High grass may hide.

T-34 is coming to help.

The German resistance is finally broken.

Both sides have huge losses.

The city was cleaned from the Nazi occupants.

In some days the echo of the front line will be less and less heard in Kiev. It will move to the western borders.
