At the Plant Making Beer And Soft Drinks

It’s not the first time we are coming to the Moscow brewing plant “Ochakovo”. But the place is worth visiting again. We are going to show you how they make beer at the factory, show you all these pipes and tanks with the golden liquid.

The “Ochakovo” plant appeared in 1978.

When the plant was mastering the production of foreign drinks, the technologists were pretty much impressed by the terms of their storage, because the domestic soft drinks could be stored no longer than 7 days. And it was achieved not by adding preservative chemicals, as it could be supposed, the fact is that before the 80s the Soviet technology of water preparation and cleanness of production didn’t reach the same high level as abroad.

The “Ochakovo” is the world first factory that started to pack beer in plastic bottles. Here they can make 33 000 one litre bottles an hour.

This is a brewhouse. The process of the production is automated.

These tanks are used for making wort. Wort is a mixture of malt and hot water.

This is the wort.

Malt is germinated barley which has to be crushed, mixed with hot water to obtain wort. The wort is boiled with hop. Then it must be cooled and mixed with yeast to ferment.

The hop is granulated, it is brought from Germany and the Czech Republic.

They also make kvass here.

Here they grow yeast crops.

This is a fermentation shop. The process takes six to eight days.

Cylindric tanks are the largest equipment at the plant. They are twenty meters (66 ft) high. It’s like a seven-storey building. They were brought to the plant from Belgium and the plant was literally growing around them.
