Nature of the Wild Polar Land

2012/10/31

The nature of TaImyr peninsular is rather severe. In summer after sunset temperature falls to 3C (37.4F). And even in such conditions the vegetation of Taimyr is rich enough. Plants have to survive in a cold polar summer and leave offspring in thawed soil over the permafrost.

The climate is closely connected with permafrost: when the sun doesn’t shine, the air is getting cold fast.

Moss, berries and flowers grow everywhere.

This is cloudberry hiding among the leaves.

And this is blueberry.

Fighting for survival plants try to occupy as much vital space as possible.

But still there are some places where grows nothing. More often they are located next to fallen trees.

Mushrooms grow in tundra too.

Some of them are rather big.

For trees it’s not also easy to survive.

There are a lot of birch trees. And they can look absolutely different. This one is growing in such a complicated way.

But these ones look the ordinary way.

Lichen actively grows on coniferous trees.

Tree branches suffer from strong cold winds.

But life continues.

Tundra has a lot of streams with algae and duckweed.

The birds are very shy and do not let photograph them closely.

There are a lot of midge and other insects like beetles, bees, grasshoppers.

Taimyr is the land of lakes.

Sometimes landscapes resemble the map of the world…

… Or even faces!

You won’t probably find any similar nature anywhere. It is unique and beautiful.

Moscow Suicidal Club

2012/10/31

We have shown a lot of their photos at English Russia. They call themselves climbers, but in fact they are potential suicides. Fear of heights does not exist for them, they do not even know any instincts of self-preservation. Joking with death is just their favorite game. For example, climbing old rusty stairs on a 300 meters top without a safety net or running on the edge of a roof of a 40 storey building. They do it not for any sporting interest or records, they simply like to have fun together in extreme conditions.

There are 200 of them in Moscow today. But their number is growing. Most of them are students.

They use different ways to get on the highest buildings, sometimes they find an unlocked door, sometimes they invent more extreme ways.

The best is considered to be photographed while being in a risky pose, in the balance between life and death. Here the guy is balancing on the height of several hundreds meters for a successful shot.

They follow two main rules: not to be afraid of heights and be sober.

Sometimes such stairs help to climb high constructions.

Climbers joke that there is no sense to be afraid of extreme heights, because if you fall your death will occur instantly and you’ll will nothing.

They do not afraid of possible accidents, people die from vodka and deseases more often.

Most of them do not consider themselves to be dependant on heights, and they are sure they are not adrenaline junkies. But what do you think?
