LONDON, July 6. /TASS/. Russia’s Maria Sharapova reached the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament in London after defeating on Monday in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 Kazakhstan’s Zarina Diyas.
The Russian tennis star will now play for the place in the semifinal against Coco Vandeweghe of the United States, who reached the quarterfinals after defeating in the previous round Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic.
Sharapova, seeded 4, is the only remaining Russian player in the ladies’ singles completion of the Grand Slam tournament, which has £26.75 million ($41.6 million) in prize money up for grabs.
