Seven Injured in Gazprom Helicopter Crash Landing in Siberia

MOSCOW, July 14 (RIA Novosti) – At least seven people were injured after a Mil Mi-8 helicopter of the Gazprom-controlled airline crash landed in the Tomsk Region in western Siberia, Russia’s Emergencies Ministry reported on Sunday.


The Mi-8 helicopter made an emergency landing and fell on its side at 9:50 a.m. Moscow time (05:50 GMT) on Sunday in the Kargasok district of the Tomsk Region.


“There were 17 people aboard the helicopter. According to preliminary data, seven people were hurt. There were no deaths in the incident,” the ministry said.


The regional center of Russia’s Emergencies Ministry reported the Mi-8 helicopter made an emergency landing after its take-off. There were 14 gas industry workers and three crewmembers aboard the helicopter, it said.


The Siberian branch of Russia’s Emergencies Ministry reported the helicopter belongs to Gazprom-avia airline.


A total of 10 fire-firefighters are working at the scene of the incident.

A representative of the operational headquarters set up at the scene of the incident told RIA Novosti that four out of seven people hurt in the incident were in a grave condition.


“The health condition of four out of seven people hurt in the incident is grave. The condition of the other three is moderately severe,” the representative said.


In a recent incident, a Mi-8 helicopter with 28 people, including 11 children, on board, crash landed in the Republic of Yakutia in east Siberia on July 2. Twenty-four people died. Three crew and one passenger survived the crash.
