In Haiti, protesters ask Putin to help

2019/02/19

Protest rallies in Haiti, which sparked on February 17, come to an end. During the protests, people burned US flags and asked Russia, Venezuela and China for help.

"Down with the Americans, long live Putin", the protesters were chanting. In the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince, about 200 people took part in the protests. The protesters called on the Russian Federation to assist in resolving the crisis.

A member of a small group of protesters, who burned the US flag, said that Haiti should terminate relations with the Americans, as there is too much influence in the hands of the United States. "We ask Russia, Venezuela, China to look at the poverty in which we all live here," the man said.

Several thousands of people took part in the rallies that sparked in the capital of Haiti on February 7. The local residents were demanding the resignation of their state because of the ongoing economic decline and omnipresent corruption. Seven people were killed and dozens were injured as riot police were forced to use tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.

Haitian President Zhovenel Moise refused to quit and said that he could hear the voice of the people. He also said that he is aware of the problems in the country and added that the government was taking measures for their solution.

Smartphones and social networks not allowed in the Russian Army

2019/02/19

The State Duma of Russia has given the third reading to the law that prohibits Russian army servicemen and conscripts from using mobile phones and other portable electronic devices that allow them to connect to global networks and transmit information.

408 MPs supported the bill, no one voted against. The measure is deemed necessary because of difficulties in organizing control for informational restrictions. In other words, draftees and military personnel may open public access to undesirable information, such as their location.

The right of Russian servicemen to use social networks is going to be limited as well. For example, they will not be able to post any information that may indicate their location and affiliation with the armed forces.

The bill also prohibits servicemen from contacting the press, talking about their colleagues or details and peculiarities of their service. The authors of the draft law explained that such measures were introduced in connection with "special" attention that foreign special services and terrorist organizations were paying to the Russian army.

Idlib Province Syria: Infested with US-Supported Terrorists

Idlib Province Syria: Infested with US-Supported Terrorists

On the ides of March a few weeks from now, US aggression in Syria to gain another imperial trophy will enter its 9th year

by Stephen Lendman

On the ides of March a few weeks from now, US aggression in Syria to gain another imperial trophy will enter its 9th year - with no prospect for resolution any time soon because Republicans and undemocratic Dems want endless war and regime change.

There's nothing civil about what's going on, one of many Big Lies about eight years of US orchestrated war, devastating the country and its people.

Mass slaughter and destruction continue daily by Pentagon-led terror-bombing and US supported terrorists.

They're armed with Western and Israeli heavy weapons and munitions, supplied them cross-border from Turkey, Iraq, Jordan and Israel, along with the Pentagon airlifting them in.

Washington's best laid plans haven't worked out as scripted because of Russia's September 2015 intervention to combat US-supported terrorists, notably ISIS and al-Nusra.

By no means does this suggest that peace and stability will be restored to the country any time soon. Reality on the ground is polar opposite.

Begun in 2012, Russian-led diplomatic efforts in Geneva, Astana and Sochi achieved no major breakthroughs because Washington intends forever war in the country.

Afghanistan and Yemen are co-prototypes of ongoing US wars - both begun in October 2001 weeks apart, continuing endlessly with no prospects for resolution any time in the short or intermediate term - why I call them forever wars.

The same goes for Iraq and Libya. Formal conflict ended. Violence and chaos continue endlessly, both countries cauldrons of turmoil, mass impoverishment, environmental degradation, and human misery.

It's the legacy of all post-9/11 US wars, a pretext for spending countless trillions of dollars on militarism and warmaking, accounting for the large majority of US discretionary spending at the expense of vital social programs, the nation's deteriorating infrastructure, and other homeland needs.

Wall Street and the military, industrial, security, media complex demand what's going on. Republicans and undemocratic Dems salute and obey dark forces running the country - the behind the scenes power structure, the nation's deep state, politicians serving its interests exclusively.

Along with 18 or more Pentagon bases in northern and southern Syria, and Turkish wannabe sultan Erdogan's aim to annex Syrian territory bordering his country, Idlib province remains the last terrorist stronghold.

The US, NATO, Turkey, the Saudis, Israel, the UAE and Jordan support thousands of heavily armed al-Nusra and other jihadists infesting the province.

Last September, Putin and Erdogan agreed on establishing a 15 - 20 km-wide demilitarized zone in Idlib along the Turkish border.

The plan was for Russian and Turkish forces to control it for an interim period, delaying its liberation. Things haven't worked out as planned.

For the past six months, al-Nusra and other jihadists have used Idlib, including the demilitarized zone, as a platform to launch terrorist attacks against Syrian soldiers and civilians.

Erdogan betrayed Putin, agreeing to one thing, doing something entirely different, why six months after what was agreed on, things continue festering without resolution.

Jihadists move freely back and forth cross-border between Syria and Turkey. Holding civilians in the province hostage as human shields, they're a more formidable force now than last summer - heavily armed and prepared for battle.

Putin erred in trusting Erdogan, a tinpot despot hostile to Bashar al-Assad, wanting him ousted. The situation in Idlib is untenable. Liberating the province shouldn't have been delayed.

Sunday is the six month anniversary of what Putin and Erdogan agreed on, followed by the latter's betrayal, one of many reasons why he can never be trusted.

On Saturday at the Munich Security Conference, Sergey Lavrov said "(w)e cannot tolerate forever this hotbed of terrorism (in Idlib), but how to resolve this problem."

"It's up to the military to design a plan in accordance with the international humanitarian law requirements."

Another Russian/Turkish agreement was struck on Thursday, betrayal again by Erdogan most likely to follow, Lavrov saying:

In Sochi, Russia, Iran and Turkey agreed that "the military of Russia and Turkey, with the consent of the Syrian government, would try to establish a step-by-step approach, making several areas of joint patrol inside" Idlib.

Separately, Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the agreement excludes a military operation. Without it, Idlib can't be liberated.

The latest agreement sounds like more of the same defeatist policy, Putin ignoring Erdogan's betrayal, letting Idlib fester unresolved, its civilian population remaining hostages as human shields, Pentagon terror-bombing continuing at its discretion, war in Syria raging without resolution.

Separately, the Trump regime aims to establish a so-called safe zone in Syria's northeast, part of its plan to partition the country - the scheme opposed by Russia, supporting the Syrian Arab Republic's sovereign independence and territorial integrity.

On Friday, hawkish US Senator Lindsey Graham called for deploying EU forces to Syria (over an above numbers already there) - to support Washington's imperial aims in the country he failed to explain.

Erdogan has his own ideas, aiming to establish an illegal 20-mile-deep, 286-mile-long so-called security zone along the length of Turkey's northern border with Syria.

He wants Turkish forces controlling it - part of his scheme to unlawfully occupy, control, and annex Syrian territory, as much as he can get away with grabbing, especially oil-rich areas.

The US came to all countries where its troops are deployed to stay. Erdogan has the same idea for northern Syria.

Endless conflict in the country continues, perhaps for another eight years or longer - in part because of Russia's failure to go all out to liberate Idlib together with Syrian forces.

Putin informed about arrest of US investor Michael Calvey

2019/02/19

The Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested Michael Calvey, the founder of Baring Vostok investment fund, on allegations of embezzling 2.5 billion rubles from Vostochny Bank. According to the court order, Calvey will be held in custody until April 13.

He is going to be charged within ten days or else he will have to be released. The court found that the founder of the investment fund has significant resources at his disposal to be able to either escape or put pressure on witnesses. The court also took into account his American citizenship, as well as the availability of his significant financial resources and connections.

Lawyers asked the court to either send the suspect under house arrest at the place of residence in Moscow or release him on bail of 5 million rubles. The defense will appeal the court decision and insist on a measure of restraint other than detention.

In addition to Calvey, five other persons involved in the case were arrested for two months, including French citizen Phillipe Delpal - a partner of Baring Vostok investment fund.

All of them were arrested on February 15, but the court could not elect a measure of restriction at once. The court eventually decided to postpone the meeting for 72 hours to collect additional evidence.

German Gref, the chief of Russia's largest state-run bank, Sberbank, business ombudsman Boris Titov, general director of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev and chairman of the Russian Council of Private Equity Funds Anatoly Chubais spoke in defense of the entrepreneur. President Vladimir Putin was informed about Michael Calvey's arrest accordingly.

Michael Calvey may face charges under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - "Fraud committed by an organized group on a large scale". Member of the board of directors and shareholder of Vostochny Bank, Sherzod Yusupov, and the bank itself appear as the affected party on the case.

According to the statement filed by Vostochny Bank shareholder Sherzod Yusupov, the First Collection Bureau company controlled by Calvey owed about 2.5 billion rubles to Vostochny Bank.

Calvey and the five arrested top managers decided to settle the debt on unfavorable conditions for the bank, investigators believe.

Calvey does not admit his guilt and claims that the case against him was based on a corporate conflict with Sherzod Yusupov.

Kalashnikov shows self-destructible attack drone

2019/02/18

The Kalashnikov Concern has conducted successful trials of the new self-destructible unmanned aerial vehicle known for the Russian initials as CUB-BLA.  The model of the aerial drone was demonstrated at IDEX-2019 arms show in Abu Dhabi on February 17.

Kalashnikov Concern shows kamikaze UAV

The UAV, designed and manufactured by the Kalashnikov subsidiary Zala Aero, is actually an ammunition. The drone explodes when it reaches the target. The maximum flight speed of the drone is 130 kilometers per hour. Its flight lasts for 30 minutes and its payload may reach 3 kilos.

"The drone can thus destroy a target on any type of terrain both at low and high altitudes. This is a an accurate and highly effective weapon, which is very hard to destroy with the use of conventional anti-aircraft systems.

Some experts already doubt market prospects of the new kamikaze because it can hardly make competition to US and Israeli unmanned carriers of guided munitions.
