Photos Made In Top Secret Military Factories

2014/03/28

…those were top secret during Soviet era, but more easy to be accessed now. A few Russian top level military equipment producers try to allow more publicity lately. Those are some photos made in such previously hard to get places as the newest MIG-35 assembly lines, power engines for heavy military IL 76 transport planes, Tula high precision weaponry (like the Pantsir-Greyhound we had yesterday) and more.

“Alligator” Ka-52 is the further development of helicopter Ka-50 “Black shark”. An ordinary person could probably never see it being assembled, however…

It becomes possible today… Journalists and bloggers are allowed even in the “sanctum” like this.

And this is what this light frontline fighter MiG-35 of “4++” generation has got under the cockpit – side-looking airborne radar “Zhuk” (“Beetle”), the device with a universal modular structure – it can be easily and cheaply adapted for new modifications of combat aircrafts.

Here is how they assemble the radar. Only in white gowns! Like in medicine they need sterility here. By the way, the yellow thing here on the picture is an active phased antenna array. It allows to increase the detection range, indentify and classify group and single objects, attack some targets at the same time.

One should have a special permit to enter these labs.

That mess of strange objects on the image above are used to suppress radiation of the radar being tested.

Cuba To Buy Russian Antonov Regional Jets

2014/03/28

MOSCOW, March 28 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Voronezh Aircraft Plant will supply Cuba with Antonov An-148 regional jets, officials in the region where the factory is based said Friday.

"Today's decision on An-148 supplies to Cuba opens a new market for us," Alexei Gordeyev, the acting Governor of Voronezh Region said after a meeting with senior Cuban officials, including scientific advisor Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart and the country's ambassador to Russia, Emilio Lozada García.

Russian and Cuban authorities discussed other potential areas for increased bilateral cooperation during the meeting, including in healthcare and education.

The Voronezh Aircraft company is the region's largest factory and one of the biggest manufacturers of passenger and cargo aircraft in the country. The factory specializes in the production of the Il-96 wide-body long-haul passenger airliners and the An-148 regional jet.

In 2013 the company reported profit of 10 billion rubles ($280 million), including earnings from Il-96 sales that reached 5 billion rubles ($140 million), and An-148 sales at around 3.2 billion rubles ($90 million).

Russia and Cuba have enjoyed close cooperation since the days of the Soviet Union. In recent years, Russia has moved to step up ties with Cuba.

In December, Moscow wrote off most of Havana's Soviet-era debt, estimated at about $30 billion, and denounced the US trade embargo against Cuba.

West Steps Up Disruptive Actions Inside Russia Over Crimea – FSB

2014/03/28

MOSCOW, March 28 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has noted an increase in foreign disruptive actions since the souring of relations with the West over the situation in Crimea and appropriate measures are being taken to protect the country, a senior FSB official said Friday.

The fate of Crimea, a predominantly ethnic Russian region which seceded from Ukraine and joined Russia last week, has triggered the worst East-West standoff since the Cold War.

"There has been a sharp increase in foreign threats to the state. The legal desire of the Crimean people and those in the eastern regions of Ukraine to join Russia evokes hysteria on the part of the United States and its allies," said Alexander Malevany, the FSB's counterterrorism director, at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"They are undertaking measures to disrupt the social, political and economic life of our country," Malevany added. "In such circumstances, we are planning and implementing active counterintelligence and intelligence measures against their ambitions."

He told the president that Russian citizens, including in the country's newest region, are duly protected against radicals and extremists.

Crimea, formerly an autonomous republic within Ukraine, held a referendum earlier this month in which voters overwhelmingly supported a move to rejoin Russia after having been undemocratically gifted to Ukraine by Soviet leaders just over a half century ago.
