Russian lawmakers submit to State Duma bill on distribution of sanctioned goods to needy

MOSCOW, August 13. /TASS/. A group of lawmakers from the Russian Communist Party led the party’s leader Gennady Zyuganov has submitted to the State Duma on Thursday a bill that proposes to confiscate sanctioned foodstuffs and goods and distribute them to the needy and also send them as a humanitarian aid to other countries, a source in the administrative office of the lower house of the Russian parliament told TASS.

According to the bill, these categories of food, semi-finished and related products "are subject to confiscation and conversion into the ownership of Russia." The confiscated goods are sent to provide "gratis aid to low-income and socially disadvantaged groups of the population, to those affected by natural disasters and other emergency events and individuals who found themselves in situations that require material assistance."

The lawmakers also suggest sending the confiscated goods for "providing humanitarian aid to other countries, their federal and municipal entities, international and foreign agencies, individuals who are residents of foreign countries or stateless persons, refugees, internally displaced persons, including those affected by military conflicts, terrorist attacks, natural disasters and other emergencies."

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on destroying the sanctioned foreign goods on July 29, 2015. Their destruction began in Russia on August 6.
