MOSCOW, August 2. /TASS/. Russia’s Airborne Forces (VDV) Day will be traditionally celebrated in Moscow’s Gorky Park on Sunday with a major concert and the guests will be also treated to watermelons, the park’s press service reported.
The tradition of celebrating Airborne Forces Day in the Gorky Park originated in the 1990s. Sports airdropping was held there on this day. In 1997, flights over Moscow were banned, and the airborne troops’ tradition to gather in this park remained. Since 2011, the main entrance to the park has been decorated for the holiday with blue berets and other art installations. A special festive programme and eats and drinks have been prepared for paratroopers.
2015 marks the 8th anniversary of the Russian Airborne Forces.
