DUSHANBE, August 27. /TASS/. More than 1,000 representative of law enforcement agencies of CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) countries will take part in large-scale drills against drug trafficking "Thunder 2015". The exercise will kick off today at the Fakhrabad base belonging to Tajikistan’s defense ministry and will run until September 3, head of press service of Tajikistan’s Agency on Drug Control Khushnud Rakhmatullayev told TASS.
"Among participants in the maneuvers are special units of anti-drug agencies and departments, armed forces, interior ministries and security agencies of CSTO countries allocated to the special units of collective forces of rapid deployment of the Organization," he noted.
Rakhmatullayev said that "drills are organized with the aim of holding joint operations on blocking channels of drug trafficking and curing the activities of criminal groups in Tajikistan’s territory bordering with Afghanistan." Special forces will also "improve practical skills at carrying our search and ambush operations on blocking channels of drug trafficking, seizing illegal drugs, arms, ammunition and explosives," he added.
CSTO Deputy Secretary General Amanzhol Zhankuliyev will oversee the drills, along with Russia’s Federal Drug Control Service head Viktor Ivanov, heads of drug control agencies of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan; ambassadors; military attaches of foreign countries accredited in Tajikistan; and media representatives.
