France will have to pay for Mistrals. Paris and Moscow have tentatively agreed on the amount of compensation that France will have to pay to Russia because of the decision not to deliver the helicopter carriers.
After many months of doubt, France eventually terminated the conflict for the delivery of two Mistral vessels to Russia because of the Ukrainian crisis. AgoraVox publication called France's move ridiculous, while MEP Marine Le Pen has repeatedly stated that such actions only harm French shipbuilding.
The amount of the French penalty remains a mystery. Earlier, it was reported that Russia was asking for 1.1 billion euros, whereas France agreed to return only 800 million.
In the event of a successful outcome of the dispute, France will regain the right to sell the Mistral vessels to a third party.
