MOSCOW, June 12. /TASS/. Russia is viewing a possibility of extending the European security watchdog OSCE mission on the Russian-Ukrainian border, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Andrey Kelin said on Friday.
"We mean an extension of the mission for another three months at two border checkpoints of Donetsk and Gukovo," Kelin said.
The current mandate expires on June 30. A decision to deploy the mission on the Russian side of the border with Ukraine was made on July 24 last year. The three-month mandate has been extended a few times and each time certain Western countries came forward with a proposal to send monitors to other Russian border checkpoints.
A diplomatic source close to the OSCE told TASS that some OSCE countries raised the issue of the mission extension at an informal meeting on Friday.
