Russian Emergencies Ministry opens Information Center in Geneva

MOSCOW, June 15. /TASS/. Russian Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov has opened on Monday the International Coordination and Information Center to protect the population and territories from natural and man-made emergency situations at the headquarters of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO).

"It’s a momentous event. The humanitarian activity coordination center set up with Russia’s support has been opened today here, at the ICDO headquarters. The center uses Russian technologies and crisis management equipment, including the Russian space monitoring systems. The Russian rescue technologies thus came to the very heart of Europe," the minister noted during the opening of the center.

"Two years ago we jointly prepared the project of the center. I am sure that its creation is a good foundation for the future in the field of risk management, because, unfortunately, the risks of emergencies, both natural and man-made, persist, new dangers and threats humanity was unaware of yesterday appear," Puchkov said.

The center’s basic task is to provide modern operational communication and information sharing with the organization’s members and partners, including the relevant structures of the leading UN agencies. The Russian Emergencies Ministry is confident that the implementation of this project will help will help to boost Russia’s leading role in the ICDO and attract other participating countries for sharing experience in the speedy prevention of disasters and response to them.
