MOSCOW, June 17. /TASS/. One person was wounded as a result of shelling in the city of Donetsk, east Ukraine, the city mayor’s office said on Wednesday.
The shelling targeted the Petrovsky district of Donetsk late on Tuesday and early on Wednesday. A house was also destroyed when a shell hit the Kuybyshevsky district of the city. No buildings have been ruined in the Petrovsky district.
A powerful explosion also occurred in the vicinity of a chemicals plant in the Kuybyshevsky district on Tuesday. An investigation is ongoing. "No casualties have been reported," the official said.
Eyewitnesses earlier said the shock wave was felt in the center of the city. The explosion cause large fire. A plume of smoke was seen from a distance of several kilometers.
The latest shelling comes despite the official ceasefire in eastern Ukraine that entered into force on February 15.
The agreement to stop hostilities in Donbas was brokered after the 16-hour marathon talks between the leaders of the Normandy Quartet countries - Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine.
The February 12 deal also envisages heavy weaponry withdrawal from the contact line, launching a dialogue on restoring social and economic ties between Kiev and Donbas, a constitutional reform in Ukraine aimed at decentralization and ensuring the special status of certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and other measures.
