MOSCOW, May 8. /TASS/. Uzbekistan’s President Islam Karimov said on Friday the global situation could be improved if Russia and the United States rebuild trust in their relations.
Speaking at an informal meeting of the heads of state of member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), he called to learn the lessons from World War Two. "It is absolutely clear to the entire sane humankind: if a new war breaks out, it will be another, and obviously, the last world war," he said.
But "instead of building up trust between big powers, even members of the United Nations Security Council, we see a new spiral of confrontation," which is "absolutely abnormal. If it continues, nothing good will come," he said, adding that the most important thing at the moment was to find a solution to the Ukrainian conflict.
It is likewise important "to rebuild sincerity and trust first of all between the leading powers, between Russia and the United States," Karimov said. "To achieve this goal, each of the sides must to its best to rebuild trust that used to be before this aggravation" of the recent years.
"No one is to be allowed to humiliate or ignore other states. These states are great powers and members of the United Nations Security Council not to be the first or the second or a state not to be reckoned with," he said.
The Uzbek leader said what was now going on at the United Nations Security Council in no way contributed to its authority. "If there is no reform, the United Nations’ authority will be further ignored," he underscored.
