MOSCOW, May 18. /TASS/. Russia’s loss to Canada in the gold medal game of the world hockey championship on Sunday cannot be justified by the fatigue of the hockey players, Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin has told reporters.
The Russian national ice hockey team lost to Canada 1-6 in the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey Championship final match in the Czech capital Prague on Sunday. On Monday morning, the Russian team came back to Moscow.
"I would not say that the players of the team were like squeezed oranges at this championship after the long seasons in their leagues. Of course, someone was tired and maybe someone was less prepared. But all of us were in similar conditions, and speaking about fatigue wound be wrong," he stressed.
"Still, this is a good morning, against all odds. As our chief coach Oleg Znarok said silver is also a medal. Everyone fought and did their best, but unfortunately, the Canadians were much stronger than us," he added.
The Russian hockey star said the coaches thanked the team after the game. "They thanked us for fighting," Ovechkin said.
The ice hockey world championship was hosted by Prague and Ostrava from May 1-17, 2015.
