MOSCOW, May 30. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a telegram to Sepp Blatter congratulating him on reelection as the president of FIFA, the world football's governing body, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Saturday.

"Putin expressed confidence that the experience, professionalism and high authority will help Blatter to further contribute towards expanding the geography and popularity of football around the world," Peskov said.

Putin has once again stressed that "Russia is interested in and is ready for cooperation with FIFA in general and in particular during the preparations for the 2018 World Cup in Russia," the presidential spokesman said.

"Russia is set to do its utmost for holding this event successfully and also for making football more popular and expanding the multi-million army of admirers of this sport," Peskov said, citing the telegram.

Blatter, 79, who has been at the helm of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) since 1998, won a fifth four-year term on Friday. His single opponent, Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan, withdrew his candidacy from the second round of the voting.
