No obstacles left for Kyrgyzstan to join post-Soviet trade bloc — Kazakhstan president

MOSCOW, May 8. /TASS/. No obstacles have remained on the way of Kyrgyzstan’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and documents are expected to be signed on Friday, Kazakhstani President Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

"So, we’re taking this important decision today," he said at the EEU summit.

Two unresolved problems related to Kyrgyzstan’s accession remained until today, the Kazakhstan president said.

"Today we’re adopting two protocols, which will allow us to complete the legal formalization of Kyrgyzstan’s accession to our union," he said.

These problems deal with shifting "the cutoff point" of Kyrgyzstan’s international agreements (deals with China on the construction of roads and projects in irrigation and energy) and the issues of audit of the veterinary control system, Kazakhstan’s president said.

The EEU summit can discuss these problems on Friday and make a protocol decision, he added.

"Therefore, all the issues that caused doubts have been removed and we’re today adopting a document on Kyrgyzstan’s full-fledged accession to our union," Nazarbayev said.

The Treaty on establishing the Eurasian Economic Union was signed by the presidents of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan on May 29, 2014 in Astana. The EEU, which came into effect on January 1, 2015, is designed to ensure the free movement of goods, services, capital and workforce on its territory.

The EEU currently comprises Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia.
